Justin Bieber is auctioning off Johnson, the baby boa constrictor he brought to the 2011 Video Music Awards, with all proceeds going to Pencils of Promise, one of the organizations he’s sponsoring through his Believe charity drive.
That means one lucky fan has the chance to win a decidedly unique bit of Bieber memorabilia.
Bidding is now under way over on the Charity Buzz website (Johnson is currently going for $175, FYI) and closes November 29. Of course, only serious bidders need apply, because if you end up winning the auction, you’ll be on the hook for the long haul, as a disclaimer on the site cautions:
“Keeping a pet snake is a long-term responsibility. Before making any decision about keeping one, please ensure you have the money, space, knowledge, time, resources and enthusiasm required to properly care for the species you intend to keep, for the duration of its life.”
Enthusiasm is key, since boa constrictors can live 20 years or more in captivity, and, as Charity Buzz states, “the welfare of this snake is the sole responsibility of the adopter … the adopter agrees to give the snake good care, which includes quality premium food, fresh water, sanitation and grooming, clean and secure indoor housing, clean and secure outdoor housing and overall safety.” The winning bidder must also guarantee Johnson’s veterinary care will be provided for.
Bieber announced the launch of his Believe charity drive earlier this month, with the release of his Under the Mistletoe. He’s donating a portion of the sales from the holiday disc — which just debuted at #1 on the Billboard albums chart — to charity and is encouraging fans to match his donations to seven specific organizations: the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Pencils of Promise, Musicians on Call, Project Medishare for Haiti, City of Hope, the Boys & Girls Club of America and the Grammy Foundation.
Will you bid on Justin’s snake? Let us know in the comments!

The developer of iCab Mobile, a feature-rich alternative to the Safari Web browser on iPad and iPhone, has been ordered by Apple to remove its ability to download and install JavaScript modules.
Presumably it’s not the fact that iCab can execute JavaScript that’s causing Apple to apoplectically puff and splutter, but rather its ability to download modules. Both Apple and Google frown upon apps that contain market-like functionality, and someone at Apple probably thought that iCab’s JavaScript modules looked like a bit too much like discrete apps.
Alexander Clauss, iCab’s developer, has rather a lot to say on the matter. “Maybe if I would have called the modules ‘smart bookmarks’ and would have made installing them much more complicated, Apple would have never asked to remove the ability to download them from the internet. The great user experience of installing modules has probably created a suspicion that these modules are more than just a piece of JavaScript code. From a pure technical point of view, if Apple does not allow to download modules (JavaScript code), Apple would also have to disallow to load web pages in general, because these do also contain JavaScript code.”
In conclusion, to circumvent Apple’s draconian decree, iCab Mobile now simply comes bundled with some 20 JavaScript modules. The ability to download modules made by third-party developers has been disabled, however — but even then, Clauss says that you can simply contact him and ask for your module to be bundled with the next version of iCab.

Britney Spears expressed her condolences Tuesday (October 25) to the family of a fan who died after attending her concert Monday in Dublin, Ireland.
Siobhan Healy, 31, was on a fairground ride called the Tip Top outside the concert venue when she was thrown to the ground and killed instantly. According to the U.K.’s Daily Mail, Healy had attended Spears’ concert earlier in the evening at the nearby O2 arena.
“I was saddened to hear of the tragic accident in Dublin,” Spears tweeted Tuesday. “My heart goes out to the family. –Britney”
A family friend told the paper that the accident has devastated the residents of Healy’s hometown of Willsborough. “The community is very shocked,” Michael McGreal said. “I know her family very well, we are all very upset.”
An investigation has been launched to find out what caused the accident, with some speculating that the recent severe weather that has swept through Ireland might have been a contributing factor.
Kenneth McFadden, the owner of the company that runs the Tip Top ride, also expressed his condolences. “We can’t say [what happened], it all happened so quick,” he said. “We are just in bits at the moment, we are just devastated.”
McFadden also told the Daily Mail that he has had the Tip Top ride for nearly five years and never experienced any problems with it.

So far they’ve raised over $60,000, and the day is still young. So if you’ve been recently hankering after some nerdy book (or three), now would be a great time to grab one.

DIEBOLD DELL CYPRESS SEMICONDUCTOR ACCENTURE ACER

In an era where football is king during the fall, combat sports carved out a nice little night for itself. Even if casual fans walked away annoyed or irked, MMA and boxing got them talking.
On the boxing side, “robbery” is being screamed by many after Manny Pacquiao escaped a big upset with a majority decision over Juan Manuel Marquez. In MMA, the UFC and Fox had to deal with the interesting result of just one minute and four seconds from its much publicized heavyweight title fight between Junior dos Santos and Cain Velasquez.
Dana White explained that he was thrilled with the broadcast and the 64-second fight was nothing to be embarassed about. The CEO and chairman of Fox Sports David Hill, gave an interesting answer when asked about the short fight that filled the entire hour.
“It absolutely delivered everything I hoped it would,” Hill told ESPN.com. “I spoke to Dana and maybe, tactically, Dana didn’t play it the right way. But this is what you get in this sport. This is world heavyweight champion action.”
Hill said it comes with the territory in fighting.
“I once bought a night of boxing from legendary promoter Don King,” Hill said. “There were three bouts on that card and do you know how much boxing I got? Forty-seven seconds. I’ve been covering fights forever. It comes with the territory.”
So does complaining from some fans.
“If it had gone five rounds tonight, people would have gone, ‘It went so long, it was boring,’” said Hill.
The Fox exec is still squarely behind MMA.
“This is genuine. This is real. It’s this generation’s boxing,” said Hill.
